Social media is connecting us all unlike anything before. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, you name it, you need a presence on it. These avenues are the fastest growing marketing channels that exist today.

Wondering what in the world Twitter is and why you should care? Does the little blue bird make you sick to your stomach? Don't worry you're not alone. Twitter allows users to send short (140 characters) snippets of information to those who follow their "tweets". This model works very well with mobile devices which explodes it's popularity and ease of use.

In many cases, these about half of these tweets are worthless and trivial (IE: "I'm watching TV now-LOL" or "Going to Paris tomorrow"). Hence, the push back by many saying Twitter's a time waster.

On the flip side, many news outlets are viewing this new phenomenon as the "new" news broadcast as users can "re-tweet" other's postings allowing for a viral spread of information among the network. I knew Michael Jackson was dead before CNN did.

Big business is also trying to figure out who they are on Twitter. Some do it well and some don't. How do you make money using Twitter? But, if your business is not on Twitter what are you loosing?
